This Privacy Policy describes how Clara ("we," "us," or "Clara") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Clara Pregnancy app. By using Clara, you explicitly consent to the collection and processing of your information as described below.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve our services:

• Account information: username, email address, and password hash
• Health data: pregnancy details, tracker data, mood logs, weight, blood pressure, and symptoms
• Journal entries and personal notes
• Chat conversations with Clara AI
• Medication information

All data is stored securely on encrypted servers and is accessible only to you through your account.

2. Sensitive Health Data

The health information you enter — including pregnancy status, due date, mood logs, weight, blood pressure readings, medications, and symptoms — is classified as sensitive personal health data under applicable law, including GDPR Article 9 and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We process this data only with your explicit consent, for the sole purpose of providing personalized pregnancy guidance within the app. We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide personalized pregnancy guidance and recommendations
• Generate AI-powered insights based on your health data
• Track your health metrics over time
• Improve the app experience and develop new features

We do NOT use your data for advertising purposes.

4. AI-Powered Features

Clara uses artificial intelligence to provide health information and personalized insights. AI responses are for informational purposes only and do not constitute medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider before making any health-related decisions.

To provide AI responses, anonymized conversation context (including relevant health information you have entered) is processed by Anthropic, Inc. (Claude AI) and Google LLC (Gemini AI) via secure API connections. These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. Clara does not sell this data. Chat content is not stored by these providers beyond the current request.

5. Data Sharing

We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. We do not display advertisements in the app.

Your data may only be shared in the following limited circumstances:

• With AI service providers (Anthropic, Inc. and Google LLC) solely to generate responses to your questions — limited to the minimum data necessary
• With your explicit consent
• To comply with legal obligations
• To protect the safety of our users or the public

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS/SSL) for data in transit and at rest. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. We regularly review and update our security practices to ensure your data remains protected.

7. Your Rights

You can access, update, or delete your account data at any time through the app's Settings. If you choose to delete your account, all of your data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

8. GDPR — Rights of EU/EEA Users

Legal basis for processing: We process your personal and health data on the basis of your explicit consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a)), which you provide when you create an account and agree to these terms.

If you are located in the EU or EEA, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Restrict or object to processing of your data
• Request portability of your data in a machine-readable format
• Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting lawfulness of prior processing)

Data retention: Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days.

International transfers: Your data is processed on servers located in the United States. By using Clara, you consent to this transfer. We take appropriate safeguards to protect your data in accordance with applicable law.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Clara is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal data we collect about you
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Opt-out of the sale of your personal data

We do not sell your personal data.

11. Medical Disclaimer

Clara provides general health information only. It is NOT a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Do not delay seeking professional medical care because of information provided by Clara.

12. Mental Health & Emotional Wellness Disclaimer

Clara is NOT a mental health provider. Neither Clara nor any of its AI systems is a licensed therapist, psychologist, counselor, or psychiatrist, and nothing in the app creates or implies a therapist-patient relationship of any kind.

• Mood check-ins are personal self-tracking tools for your own awareness only — they are not therapy, clinical monitoring, or mental health treatment.
• AI journal reflections are reflective writing support tools — they are not psychological counseling, therapy, or mental health treatment.
• Clara does not diagnose, screen for, treat, or monitor any mental health condition — including depression, anxiety, postpartum depression (PPD), or any other perinatal mood or anxiety disorder.

13. Health Risk Alerts — Not a Diagnosis

Clara includes a pattern-detection feature that generates informational alerts based on data you track in the app. This feature operates in two modes:

• Pregnancy mode flags patterns related to conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, decreased fetal movement, preterm labor, persistent low mood, persistent anxiety, dehydration patterns, rapid weight gain, and significant bleeding.
• TTC (Trying to Conceive) mode flags fertility-related patterns such as cycle irregularities, ovulation signals, LH surge detection, and BBT thermal shifts.

THESE ALERTS ARE INFORMATIONAL PATTERN SUMMARIES ONLY. They are NOT a medical diagnosis, clinical assessment, or professional recommendation of any kind — in either mode.

You acknowledge and agree that:

• A flag does not mean you have the condition; the absence of a flag does not mean you are free of the condition
• These alerts do not replace evaluation by a licensed OB, midwife, reproductive endocrinologist, or other qualified healthcare provider
• Clara makes no representations about the accuracy, completeness, or clinical validity of any flagged condition in either mode
• Clara, its team, and its AI systems bear no liability for any health outcome, clinical decision, or action (or inaction) taken in response to any risk alert in any mode

Contact your healthcare provider whenever a condition is flagged.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
